We arrived in Missions Beach Monday morning and the sun was finally shining! The place is basically one big beach and there are lots of activities to get on with like bush walking and swimming. We both did the 14,000 ft sky jump which was so amazing! Going up in the plane and having to move ourselves to the edge of the door was the scariest part! The 60 second free fall was unreal. It was quite hard to breath as the air just shoots up your nose. As the instructor pulled the parachute the views of Mission Beach and the surrounding islands were spectacular! It was really beautiful. We have a DVD of the dive but it does not capture the nice views that we saw from up there.

Today we did the Extreme White Water Rafting in Tully. Not only did we get to crash down the river but we also got to jump off rocks and go down shoots. The forest and mountains were gorgeous. This place is class!

We have most of our photos and video on DVD so you will have to wait till we get home to see them. The sky dive one is really embarrassing!

The beach photos look amazing. Your mum thinks that a lot of them are like Donegal but with the weather. Looks like its a bit brighter and warmer than it was in recent photos. I think the beach is a bit like "Lost".
Wow! Just looked at the skdiving and white water rafting. All I can say Christine is "Fair play Sheila" (still trying out my Aussie). The skydive had to be a fantastic experience and I'm sure there was a touch of squeaky bum time beforehand. Does great things for the cheekbones as well!
The rafting looked fun. You both have great grins on your faces throughout. The very last shot in particular looks like Christine is having a ball.
Tam O'Shanter Point eh. The Irish get everywhere. Good to see Dougall enjoying himself with a bit of rock climbing. What's the water like? Still not warm enough for swimming -- bound to be warmer than Shroove. Nice bit of meat at the BBQ, but what was the other stuff -- looks like bolognese sauce!
Just been looking at Google maps to see exactly where Mission Beach is. It seems really remote. Some weird and wonderful place names -- Clump Point, Dunk Island, Bingil Bay, Midgeree Bar -- and then ones that sound like they're just up the road from here like McCulcheon, Innisfail, and Tam O'Shanter (again). I even spotted a David Street running up from Mission Beach and leading into Campbell Street (David's granny). Weirdly, when I searched for "Christine Australia" (just on the off chance) Google Maps took me to nearby Innisfail -- no idea why -- but it looks a really nice wee town sitting at the confluence of two big wide rivers about two miles from the Pacific coast, and just south of the wonderfully named Coconut. It's probably actually a dump, full of guys with corks on their hats and native australians with social problems, but from a mile up it looks great.
